SuperSpeller compatibility with Mac apps
Check SuperSpeller's compatibility evidence, browser setup, known limitations, and what to try when suggestions do not appear in a Mac app.
By SuperSpeller · Updated
Start with the system requirements
SuperSpeller requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Accessibility permission is required for observing editable fields and inserting suggestions you accept.
Support varies by app and by text field. Being able to read a field is not the same as confirming that every shortcut and insertion works there. The observations below come from the project’s local compatibility record, reviewed on 6 September 2026.
What has been checked
- TextEdit, Notes, Mail, Pages, Safari and Chrome text fields, Outlook, Terminal, and Teams
- Local checks observed accessible editable fields. Insertion and keyboard behavior still need a complete interactive pass in each app.
- Visual Studio Code
- Editor-field capture and a chat-composer label were observed. Screen reader setup may be needed; this is not a verified end-to-end completion test.
- Word, Slack, and iTerm
- Compatibility rules exist, but these apps were not installed for the recorded checks. Their live behavior remains unverified.
Some apps need an extra setup step
For ChatGPT desktop, text capture and suggestion placement have been observed, but earlier insertion checks found instability and keyboard acceptance still needs confirmation. Claude desktop still needs an end-to-end compatibility check. Messages and WhatsApp have compatibility profiles, with a complete interactive check still pending. Try your usual fields during the free trial.
For Arc and Dia, enable Text Metrics at chrome://accessibility and leave that tab open. You may need to enable it again after a browser restart. Suggestion placement depends on the information the browser makes available.
For Google Docs, enable screen reader and braille support under Tools → Accessibility. If Smart Compose competes with suggestions, review its setting under Tools → Preferences. Google Sheets uses on-demand completion in small cells; Google Slides is not supported.
VS Code, Cursor, and Windsurf start disabled in new app rules. Enable the relevant app in SuperSpeller’s settings if you want to try it. Automatic assistance is intended for identified chat fields; ordinary code-editor fields remain on demand.
Known limits and troubleshooting
Secure text fields are excluded. Some apps are explicitly unsupported, including OneNote, Thunderbird, Anki, Zed, and Sublime Text. Remote or virtual-machine text fields are not supported through a guest integration. Ordinary terminal prompts use on-demand completion.
If no suggestion appears, check Accessibility permission, the global completion switch, and the app or website rule. Make sure the field is editable and no text is selected. Try Force a completion with Option–Command–Space; it does not override disabled or unsupported fields.
Test both the suggestion and accepted text during your free trial. If something fails, contact support with the app name, version, macOS version, and steps using example text. Do not include private writing or passwords.
