Choosing writing support for dyslexia on Mac

A practical guide to trying word completion and spelling support in SuperSpeller, with clear limits and ways to check whether it suits your writing.

By SuperSpeller · Updated

Start with the part of writing you want help with

If you know the word you want but get stuck on its spelling, completing the beginning of that word may be useful. If you want help continuing a sentence, predictive text serves a different purpose. It offers possible next words for you to read and choose.

SuperSpeller offers word completion, predictive text, and spelling suggestions in supported Mac apps. It does not read text aloud or provide word banks. Suggestions remain optional, and you decide which words fit your meaning.

Try it with a familiar writing task

Choose a short task you already do, such as drafting a message or writing a note. Use a non-sensitive example while getting used to the controls. Begin a word you sometimes hesitate over and check whether a suggestion helps you finish it.

Then try a complete sentence. Accept one suggested word at a time with Tab, or keep typing if it does not fit. Check the final sentence for meaning. Suggestions can be wrong, even when the spelling looks right.

The 7-day trial gives you time to test whether this way of working feels comfortable. There is no signup. Check app compatibility before relying on it for a particular workflow.

Adjust the controls to your workflow

You can change the acceptance keys in Settings → Shortcuts and turn help off in apps where it distracts you. Optional learning can use frequent words and spelling corrections you have accepted to inform later suggestions. This is opt-in, stays on your Mac, and can be cleared.

Notice which features help and which interrupt you. Try word completion separately from longer suggestions, and use the keyboard controls that are easiest for you to remember. Our setup guide shows the default controls and the real shortcut settings.

Check features beyond word prediction

If reading aloud, vocabulary tools, or PDF reading are central to your work, compare those features explicitly. SuperSpeller focuses on local word suggestions and spelling help; another product may offer a better fit for those additional needs.

Our WordQ comparison explains the differences and links to the official product sources. Consider your usual apps, the tools you already use, and whether you need offline access. A SuperSpeller license is US$15.99 as a one-time payment after the trial.
